Zentangle art

The Zentangle art, is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images. The drawings consist structured patterns. We call these patterns, tangles. You create tangles with combinations of dots, lines and simple curves. These simple shapes are the elemental strokes in all Zentangles .
Zentangle art is non-representational and unplanned. You can focus on each stroke and not worry about the result. There is no up or down to this art. You don’t need to know how tangle is going to look like. You just need to know the steps. The result is a delightful surprise.
Basically, it’s a specific way to draw, most often in black pen on white paper. Zentangle has become an international phenomenon. Now it has applications in stress reduction and education, therapy and even motivational training.
This kind of art may be relatively new. The basic principles involved are as old as the history of art. It includes rituals symbols of numerous cultures from ancient through present times. And like “doodling” it is based on a human behaviors in which one refrains from planning and allows lines and shapes to unintentionally emerge.
There are numerous books on this method. They will help you get started. These books provide numerous designs and show you how to create various patterns, step-by-step. Or simply search the Internet to find instructions and inspiration for designs. Practice a few patterns first. Than start creating your own zentangles. You only need a few materials to create your designs: a pencil, a black pen and heavy white drawing paper .
The reason I like creating Zentangle art ?
While the process may look intricate, it is a deceptively simple pathway to relaxation and inner focus. In fact, proponents of the practice note that it has multiple benefits including calming an anxious mind, increasing self-confidence and cultivating moment-to-moment awareness in a similar way as mindfulness meditation.
For me Zentangle art is the combination of the drawing structured patterns with the collage of digital art to tell a story.
